ADA Transition Planning for Parks & Recreation

Are you still scratching your head on how to implement an ADA Transition Plan when you have multiple parks and recreation facilities? Let’s talk barriers for park visitors with disabilities and how to fix them! Jennifer Skulski has led accessibility assessment teams for more than 1,000 municipal recreation facilities and 60 national parks, from Rocky Mountain National Park and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum to the City of Fort Collins and the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board. In this session, she will discuss some of the most common barriers to park visitors with disabilities. Whether its challenges with soccer fields and trails or playgrounds and picnic areas, Jennifer will share creative solutions to make park amenities accessible, get your ADA Transition Plan on track, and ultimately improve access for your park visitors with disabilities.

Application of the Accessibility Standards to Museums, Zoos, Nature Centers & Interpretive Environments

So where in the accessibility standards is the chapter for museums, zoos, nature centers and other interpretive environments? Aaaahhhhh…..if only. During this session, we will look at the features unique to interpretive environments and how the building blocks within the accessibility standards would apply. We will also highlight some of the fascinating approaches to universal design for exhibits, galleries, and interpretive programs, taking into account the balance between visitor use and protection of resources.
